Our Hands at Work
With COVID-19 sports seasons were put to a blistering halt. A group of college throwers prepare for their next shot at redemption, whenever that may be.
The America East conference announced early Monday that they will not hold indoor sports championships due to the ongoing pandemic. For many of the athletes, it leaves a question mark above their next competition. But they continue to prepare.
UAlbany Track and Field senior and America East conference champion in the discus Bryan Nicholson winds up for a throw at practice on October 20, 2020.
Bryan Nicholson retrieves the discs after a round of throwing. Masks are being required to be worn at all times, even during athletic activities.
Prior to beginning practice, Nicholson equips himself for the practice by grabbing the indoor rubber discs he will be throwing in practice.
Resting on the shelf, the indoor rubber discs await their time to be picked up and thrown dozens of feet into the air.
Nicholson waits his turn while his teammates take their throws.
Nicholson tapes up his hand prior to practice. The tape adds to the grip so the rubber disc does not slip out of his hands too early. Most experienced throwers use tape or chalk to add to their grip.
Nicholson approaches the throwing circle, ready to take his last throw of the day.
